I was photographing some of my needlework to show you, and my camera battery ran down, and I have no idea where the recharger is. I think I have some hunting to do.
In the meantime, I did get a few things photographed, and I’ll post them so that you can see them if you are interested.
Day of the Week Dishtowels

Probably twenty years or more ago, Mother sent me a set of dishtowels–the only thing like that I’ve had from her in years. Now that she is so frail and bed-ridden, I doubt that she’ll ever do any more for me. So I will show them to you. I must say that this is very different from the kind of work Mother used to do. She used to do the finest embroidery, and she never did a hand on a design that didn’t look delicate and sweet. These towels are done with many more strands of thread than she used to use, but they suit the design.

I’m sure you’ve seen these designs for years. There’s nothing unusual about that. They’re just some that Mother did. She put that featherstitch edging at the bottom of every towel. I’ve never used them because she put a lot of work into them, and I wanted to keep them for my daughter. I didn’t suppose she’d ever get a set of her own, and she hasn’t. They also aren’t very good for dishtowels, because the fabric is not absorbant. She complained about that to me when she sent them. LOL!
When I was a girl growing up, every summer I spent a lot of time embroidering dishtowels, dresser scarves, pillow cases, etc. It was the way I relaxed. I remember we went on a vacation to Colorado–a favorite vacation spot for us. We had a camper, so we camped out. While my dad was trout fishing, the rest of us stayed back in camp doing various things. I spent my time embroidering, listening to the birds and the little trout stream gurgling nearby. I squinted up at the tall pines overhead with the sunlight streaming through them in bright ribbons of light and tried to soak up the scent of the pines and firs, something we didn’t have back in West Texas. I never do hand embroidery that I don’t recall that pleasant time.
Anyway, that’s the day of the week towels that I have from Mother.
The Tour de Suisse
I suppose all of you who follow cycling know that Jan Ullrich, a German riding for T-Mobile, won the Tour de Suisse. What a thrilling last day that was. Jan was one of the last cyclists to ride, and he really did a fine job. I hope all his critics are quieted now. I couldn’t believe how a cloudburst seemed to follow him the whole way to the finish line. The wind was blowing very hard and blew away some of the distance markers. Never mind, Jan kept sailing along that tough course and blew everyone else away.
The Discovery team must be very happy about Janez Brajkovic, a new member of the team, coming in fourth. July 1, the Tour de France begins. I can’t wait. This ought to be good with Jan and Ivan Basso both in the race.
