Last year I knitted the Peace Shawl by Evelyn Clark from Fiber Trends. I had some soft teal colored Jaggerspun Zephyr left over from a couple of other shawls, so I used it for the Peace shawl. I thought it would be fun to knit, and it was. I finished it and stuck it in a bag to dress later. At long last I dressed it, and I want to show it to you.
Here are some detail shots so that you can see the motifs. The first one shows the top of the shawl, the stars, and some of the trees.

I loved the pattern; however, when I got to the bottom of the shawl where it said “Peace” over and over, I decided I didn’t want words on a lace shawl after all. (My apologies to Evelyn Clark for altering her beautiful design.) I hunted around for something that might convey something like peace without using the peace sign, and I settled on a plain old heart. It conveys love too, and I liked that. So I knitted a lace heart in that space. It took a little longer to make that way, but I think it turned out well. I am happy with it. A few weeks ago I ran across a photo where someone else had made the same substitution for her shawl. I wish I could remember where I saw it. Maybe someone else knows and will mention it to me. At the bottom of the shawl, then, are the little men and women, the hearts, and the edging.

And this is the full shawl.

Pattern: The Peace Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark from Fiber Trends.

Needles: Size 5 and size 7 US.
Dimensions: It measures 82″ along the top edge and 50″ down the center back.
Every time I finish one of these Zephyr shawls and get it dressed I’m struck again by how pretty they are. They just float, they are so light, and the silk in them gives them a bit of a sheen. I think it’s quite lovely. This is my third shawl from this cone of Zephyr, and I’m still not tired of this color. It goes well with so many colors.
Summer in Kansas
Last night I got down to within a couple of repeats to turning the bottom corner on the Summer in Kansas shawl. I’d finish this a lot faster if I’d just sit down and work on it, but I’ve had too much genealogy lately to do. Besides, I think I’m kind of lingering over this shawl. Sometimes I hate to see one finished. I live with it all that time while I’m making it, and when it’s over, it’s like I’ve lost a friend.
All this about dressing shawls reminds me that I still have to dress one of my doilies that I washed a while back. I need to get it dressed soon. It’s not a new one; it’s just one that I use a lot and it needed freshening up. I’d like to have it done before I have to dress this Summer in Kansas shawl. I wish I had some little elves to come do this part of it for me.
