We had a sudden cold spell here, after everything started blooming. I don’t think it’s going to hurt anything, as it wasn’t freezing. It was just mighty cold to feel temperatures in the fifties one morning after we’d had eighty-seven degrees the day before. Still, it was nice to feel some cool air come in the windows. I’d been wondering if the really hot temperatures were going to bog us down early this year. Everything should be beautiful for the Master’s this coming week. The dogwoods and azaleas are ablaze.

Knitting on the Southwest

I’ve been knitting right along on my Spirit of the Southwest. I am putting the edging on the second side of the shawl. Turning the bottom corner was a breeze. This pattern is written so well. I just love a clear pattern, don’t you?

Other Knitting

I’ve been delving into my patterns to see what I want to knit next. I have some really pretty designs of socks and shawls that I’d like to do, and of course, I’d like to do some more sweaters. So I spend my free moments flipping through Barbara Walker’s books, trying to find a pattern that just jumps off the page at me. If I find a stitch pattern I like, I could always plug it into another pattern I have.

Local Yarn Shop

I went out this week to get more food for Charming at the vet’s, and I stopped by the local yarn shop, Knit Together. It’s conveniently located on the way home. There were five or so women there, all working on something except for me, shopping, and the mother of one of the knitters who had come to visit while her daughter got some advice.

I saw one person working on a beautiful pink sweater that I think is made by the Summer Braids cardigan pattern from Cabin Fever. It’s this one. I loved those braids up the front.

I bought some charcoal Shepherd Sock yarn for some socks, of course, and I bought some #5 bamboo double pointed needles I’d been needing. Not much of a shopping expedition, but more than enough for me.

Surfing

I am also spending a lot of time looking at the internet to see what everyone else has been doing. There are lots of talented knitters out there.

If you haven’t been reading Yarn Harlot’s blog, you should be. She blogs. She writes books. She puts out a call, and knitters flock to her side. Imagine! In between she puts everyone to shame bravely renovating her house. I have to say that the bit about choosing paint and putting out sawdust fires had me laughing. Where I’d have been in tears, she ran for her camera. You have to love someone like that. Do take a few moments to read her blog. You won’t regret it.

Cookie has gotten completely out of hand inspiring everyone to make her eye-popping socks. Stephanie has started a Flicker Group to show off everyone’s efforts. If you haven’t taken a few minutes to look at these beauties, do so.

Books in Hand

I am nearing the end of The Hundred Days. I still have to order the last book in the series, but I have one more here to read. So I am casting about to see what to read next. Diana Gabaldon’s new book on Lord John won’t be out for a few months, so I have a small stack of mysteries and such to enjoy until then, if they’ll hold me. I’m hoping to latch onto a new author that I like.
